Former Labour MP Simon Danczuk has been cleared over claims he raped a woman in Westminster last year, it has been reported.

Mr Danczuk, 50, has always maintained the allegations made three weeks ago were ‘totally false’.

Now police are said to have told his lawyers that ‘no further action is being taken in this matter and the case is complete’.

The politician, who resigned from the Labour party last month, claimed it was an attempt to stop him from standing as an independent candidate in his former seat in Rochdale.

‘These allegations are totally false,’ Mr Danczuk told the Daily Mail last month.

He added: ‘At a time when I’m being aggressively leant upon not to stand as an independent, so as to give the Labour Party an easy ride, I can’t help but find the timing of these allegations deeply suspicious.

‘There is only a day to go before candidates have to submit nomination papers and some people desperately want to stop me.’

The twice divorced father-of-four was suspended from Labour in December 2015 after he was alleged to have sent explicit messages to a 17-year-old girl who had asked him for a job in his constituency office.

Mr Danczuk apologised for his ‘inappropriate’ behaviour.

Later it was revealed he had engaged in risque sex and spanking sessions at his constituency office with a 22-year-old woman he had met on Twitter.

The MP’s troubled personal life has made him a controversial figure in Westminster but the Mail understands he has already filed his nomination papers and was intending to launch his campaign to run as an independent candidate today.
