Houmous crisis hits supermarkets as ‘metallic-tasting’ dip recalled – leaving empty shelves

25 Apr

Supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s and M&S have been hit by a chickpea crisis, with their shelves being stripped of houmous due to “taste issues”.

Some consumers have complained that their pots of dip have a “metallic” taste.

Many pained chickpea fans have taken to social media in order to complain about the inconvenience.

Some have even tried to make their own chickpea dip – to calamitous effect.

One hummus lover tweeted at Tesco: “Your hummus tastes very peculiar. Have you changed the recipe? The tub I bought this week taste metallic!”

Another said to Sainsbury’s: “Well. That’s my Saturday night RUINED. Houmous shortage in @sainsburys #FirstWorldProblems #gutted“.
